Have you ever heard the term “Mom-Win” before? It’s likely that you have, considering there are 534,000 #MomWin hashtags on Instagram. But if you have not, a “Mom-Win” is really just a fun way to put a name on small daily victories we have as moms, that let us know we are doing something right! Joining me today on this podcast episode, is my guest and friend, Kacie Wilbur. She and I are answering the question: How to be a mom that wins?!
Kacie is a mom of 3 girls and married to Jeremy, where they work together for FCA (FCA stands fo fellowship of Christian Athletes for those of you not familiar with this ministry.) So working for a sport’s ministry, she should know a thing or two about winning, realizing the biggest wins are not ball game scores, but winning people to Christ, including our kids!
I asked Kacie to share some “Mom-Wins” that she’s personally had lately? You will have to check out the podcast episode (listen here) to hear her funny answers. At the end of her answer she told a precious story about her oldest daughter that recently shared the gospel with their pediatrician using the FCA FOUR band. If you have never heard of these, you should check them out on their FCA website here, because they are awesome! The whole goal idea of the FCA FOUR band is to make it easy for both kids and adults share the Gospel in a simple way!
I know this to be true, because both of my boysreceived one last summer at a FCA sports camp. Kacie even left me enough for 2 families to win some bracelets the first two weeks of March 2022, so be sure to check out our INSTAGRAM @faithful31moms for more info!
I also asked Kacie this: “Thinking about our mom-wins is so encouraging, but the devil is really good at pointing out our failures too! The trendy terms often used for this being: “Mom-fails or mom-guilt.” Have you ever felt this?”
Kacie expressed that she had definitely felt this many times, and I am sure that you have as well as you are reading this blog or listening to the podcast. Kacie shared several stories on the podcast episode (listen here) including being on her phone over being present with her girls.
I really related to Kacie in her answers, knowing at the end of the day, it’s easy to ruminate and replay the day over and think of all the moments where I messed up, made a bigger deal out of something than I should have or missed an opportunity to point my kids to Jesus. Can you relate to that as well? If so, let this verse encourage you:
“But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:13-14
So remember, yesterday is in the past! When you are wrong, apologize to your kids, ask the Lord for forgiveness and press on to a new day!
Next, I asked Kacie: “Even when the enemy has tried to get the best of your day and you have been a far from perfect mom, what gives you hope?“
Kacie shares the sweetest story about her girls affirming her as a mom and giving her hope even after a bad day! (Listen here) Remember, you will not be a perfect mom, and it’s okay to tell your kids that and tell them you are sorry when you mess up. This will teach them more than you can imagine about our need for a Savior, because we ALL (them included) need JESUS!
I asked Kacie: “If there is a mom struggling today with mom guilt and feeling like she is not having very many mom wins, especially in the spiritual department, what would you tell her?”
Kacie shared a few things surrounding two verses: (listen here)
“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” – 1 Corinthians 15:57-58
“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:22-23
I love how these verses remind us that our labor as moms is not in vain, and when we fall short, we can ask the Lord for forgiveness and move on! Every morning is new and another chance we have to be the best mom we can be to our kids. So let’s leave “mom-fails” of yesterday in the past and start the fresh! The best way to start the day new is by spending some time with Jesus! Sometimes it’s hard to do that in the morning as a mom, but even just a quick prayer or saying a scripture to focus on for the day to set your heart right, telling the Lord that this is HIS day and you are living for HIM is great! Then a more in depth Biblestudy may come later when the kids are at school or babies are napping.
It was great having Kacie on the podcast and be sure to listen HERE!
